A
- Humans have needs such as food, clothing, shelter - therefore, need to work to meet them ( m of p).
- Before forces of p were unaided but overtime people develop tools, machinery to assist.
- Gives rise of division between two classes: class that owns m of p, class to labourers.
- Currently in a society with a mode of production

- Early societies has no classes, private ownership or exploitation and shared everything and all worked - ‘primitive communism’.
- Forces of p grew and diff classes developed.
- Those who own m of p exploit labourers for own benefit - control SURPLUS PRODUCT.
- 3 successful societies: ancient, feudal, capitalist.
