Q

What are some points that can be gathered from classical marxism?

A
  • Conflict theories like Marxism accept that cultural rules shape behaviour
  • But… claim these rules are deliberately designed to promote or reflect the interests of some over others… e.g. ownership and control of the mass media may shape its content i.e. what we see
  • Marx focuses on a critical evaluation of capitalist societies - here conflicts of interest are central
