What is the difference between a master and a slave?
Master becomes dependent on the slave, slave learns about himself through labour and becomes independent but still controlled my master
What is labour theory of value?
Value determined by amount of labour that goes into a product
What happens through the division of labour?
Capitalism becomes more efficient. Everybody becomes a cog in the machine. Machines do work instead of humans
Characteristics of capitalism?
Exploitation is defining feature. Capitalists take value for themselves, only give enough for worker to survive - morally wrong and not sustainable
Capitalisms design faults?
Competition leads to over production and under consumption
What takes us from one epoch to the next?
Material changes, Technology and social relations are driving
What is the material dialectic?
The contradiction between forces and relations of production
How is the breakdown of capitalism meant to turn into a revolution?
Necessary to move into the next epoch. The material dialectic will create whatever os coming next
Who will be capitalism grave diggers?
Everyone working an living together - acquiring more knowledge than the bourgeois. Epochs distinguished by different social relations of production and different production technologies that go with them

social classes - defined by economic position

According to Marx, what is the ‘base’ and what is the superstructure?
Base = economy, Superstructure = ideologies
Why is one ideology not as good an another?
Everyone in different classes favours the ideology of their own class
