Marriage Services Flashcards
Catholic & Orthodox Churches
Catholics are required to both be baptised, if one person hasn’t then they require special permission
Wedding involves a special ‘nuptial’ mass if both the husband and wife are Catholic. They both bring bread and wine to the altar, having an active role in the sacrament.
Church of England
Unlike the Catholic Church, they welcome any heterosexual couple to marry whether they’re Christian or baptised. They’re also ok with mixed-faith marriages
In most weddings they use ‘The Marriage Service from Common Worship (2000)’, may also include a Eucharist (communion) after service
Non-conformist
Bride and groom can write their own vows, which gives more emphasis on the couple saying things to God
Quaker
Believe only God can join the couple together, meaning they have no minister
The couple will sit in silent worship with the congregation until they feel it is the right time to say their vows
