- When underway
- When through an approved OWS capable of seperating to a content of 15PPM or less
- When not in antarctic or in special areas

OWS operation steps
A
- Inform chief and bridge of intentions, check operation is allowed.
- Keep overboard locked and closed, open valves from Bilge tank and bilge tank recirc
- open control air and switch on OWS control panel/OCM
- fill OWS with FW to prime it before operation.
- dip tanks and record, then switch on OWS supply pump.
- Run a test cycle on control panel and observe 3 way valve change at 15PPM
- obtain key from cheif and location from bridge
- open overboard valve and start OWS observing operation.
- when finished, switch off OWS, lock overboard vlave closed, close all valves to the system
- record in ORB, amount, amount retained, location and start time, location andf finishing time.
