Tough bands of tissue that strengthen & support joints
Arise from elevated points (Ligaments)
Ex. Epicondyles of femur
Leave pits at attachment site (Ligaments)
Ex. Depression on femur head
Site of contact w/ arteries, nerves, veins
Ex. Interior of skull vault
Holes where nerves + vessels pass through bones
Ex. Mental foramen of mandile (mental nerve)

Ex. Fossa in skull for pituitary gland
