refers to a process of introducing competitors between suppliers which attract pupils and parents to their school
what is parentocracy?
‘rule of parents’ which promotes marketisation (league tables, ofsted visitors, businesses, sponsorships etc)
what is the myth of parentocracy? (ball)
weaker students from working-class backgrounds are not selected by the best schools because of the risk of them getting poor results and undermining the school’s position in the league table
what are free schools?
funded by state, organised and run by parents, teachers or businesses rather than local authority
