What does “SSL” (as in SSL Certificates) stand for, and how does it work?
Secure Socket Layer Certificates authenticate the identity of a website and encrypts information sent to the server using the current standards. It serves as an electronic passport that establishes an online entity’s credentials when doing business on the Web.
What information do SSL certificates contain?
The certificate holder’s name
The certificate’s serial number and expiration date
A copy of the certificate holder’s public key
The digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority
What is a Site Map?
A file that lists all the URLs in your website (for pages, files, images, etc.)
What formats are generally used for creating a Site Map, and where are these files generally stored?
File formats include XML, HTML and RSS; they should be found in the top-level directory for one’s website’s files.
What is a robot.txt file?
A file stored in a website’s root folder in order to tell search engines which pages, directories, or file types in your site to avoid.
