Who was Mark?
NOT a disciple - close with Peter, he is mentioned in Acts and Paul’s letters
Why did Mark write his Gospel?
- Many Christians were being persecuted, needed support
- The Church was growing
- False teaching meant Jesus’ teachings needed to be clarified
- Eye-witnesses were fading
Define ‘Gospel’
Literally means ‘Good News’
What does ‘Christ’ mean
‘Anointed one’ or Messiah
Define ‘Watershed event’
A turning point or point of change in someone’s life
Why was Jesus’ baptism a Watershed event?
- First time God called Jesus his son
- Was the transition from his life as a carpenter to his ministry
- Became a public figure
Where was Jesus baptised?
In the River Jordan
What three things happened when Jesus rose from the water?
- Heavens opened
- Holy spirit descended upon him, LIKE a dove
- God Spoke
What did God say at Jesus’ baptism?
“You are my beloved son; with you I am well pleased”
Who Baptised Jesus?
John the Baptist, Jesus’ cousin
What does Mark say about Jesus’ temptation?
“The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the Wilderness for Forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering him”
