Q

What is the difference between Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC and Verdicchio di Matelica DOC?

A

Matelica experiences a more continental climate than the Castelli di Jesi, and it inhabits the only valley—the Esino—in the Marche that runs parallel to the coast, protected from maritime influence. The vineyards in Matelica are generally higher in elevation (320-400m vs 200-350m in the Castelli di Jesi) and they experience a greater diurnal temperature variation. Harvests in Matelica often begin ten days or more later
