What are the do’s when faced with a crisis situation involving schizophrenia?
Decrease other distractions
Have one person speak at a time
Speak slowly and simply, repeat yourself when needed
Speak to behaviour and emotions, not delusions or hallucinations
What are the don’ts when faced with a crisis situation involving schizophrenia?
Do not respond in a challenging or disciplinary manner
avoid raising your voice
avoid arguing
do no agree or disagree with hallucinations or delusions- focus on emotions and behaviour
