Mapping Flashcards
What is the difference between 6 figure and 4 figure grid reference?
Four figure grid references use only 2 coordinates and 4 numbers. 2 for eastings and 2 for northings (e.g. the hospital is located 67 23). Meanwhile 6 figure grid references have numbers in between the major grid. Split each grid into tenths. 3 for easting and 3 for northings.
(e.g. the hospital is located 673 239)
What is area reference?
Is used to reference a particular box. 2 numbers for Eastings and 2 numbers for Northings. e.g. 1234 (12 are Eastings and 34 are Northings)
What are contour lines?
Contour lines are used to represent elevation at certain heights on a map. The closer the lines the steeper the slope.
