Key Elements of a Map

A

Title
Tells you what the map is about.

Scale
Shows the relationship between distances on the map and real distances on the ground.
Types of Scale:
Bar scale: A visual scale on the map.
Representative Fraction (RF): A ratio like 1:50,000.

Compass Rose
Shows the cardinal directions (North, South, East, West).

Key/Legend
Explains symbols and colors used on the map.
Example: Blue for rivers, green for forests.

Latitude and Longitude
Latitude: Horizontal lines (parallel to the Equator).
Longitude: Vertical lines (from the North Pole to the South Pole).
Used for finding exact locations on Earth.
