ME (orientation)
A
- Introduce a dilemma
- Using a personal story to orient the audience to the topic
- Finding common ground with audience
- Being genuine with them builds trust

WE (identification)
A
- assures audience that topic is relevant to them
- allows communicator to identify with audience
- broaden the tension
- focus on question you are going to answer until you are sure that your audience wants the answer

GOD (illumination)
A
- Discovering what God says about this tension/question
- new perspective to shine a fresh light
- help people resolve the issue
- exegetical work on scripture
- find the balance between too light and too heavy on scripture

YOU (application)
A
- challenging your audience to act on what they just heard
- find one point of application that is realistic, application that is life-altering may be overwhelming
- answering “so what” and “now what”

A
