Where did your proposed highway begin and end?

How will your proposed highway benefit the economies along the route?
Geography played a large part in why this old highway was unsuitable for Africa. The original plan for the highway stretched through terrain that was unsuitable for the highway. Mountains and plateaus would make this route very difficult to go through. Basins and great rift valleys along the route also cause problems with the terrain. Most of the route goes through the desert. This area could be less efficient because only a few people live in the desert. Also, to build in the desert, a large amount of water would have to be brought in so that construction would continue, which could cause an immense strain on resources. Tourism plays a significant role in placement. This is important because the highway should be where most people are. This would be most useful for the country. The old route goes through many areas with tiny populations, such as Algeria or the Sahara desert. It also goes through the DRC, an area currently fighting a civil war. This could cause problems with the building and jeopardize workers’ safety, and keeping the workers’ safety is a top priority. These problems make it unsuitable to build the route through these areas.
