Manufacturing Flashcards
1
Q
Sand Casting
A
- Low surface detail
- Most common casting method
- Can make VERY large part
- Labor-intensive with a long cycle time
2
Q
Die casting
A
- Permanent-mold casting process, in which molten metal is injected into a mold cavity under high pressure
- Uses dies
- Economical for large production
- Good accuracy and surface finish, but not perfect
- Good strength
- Limited to metals with low melting points, and part geometry must allow removal from the die
3
Q
Investment casting
A
- Parts of great complexity
- Close dimensional control and good surface finish
- VERY labor intensive and expensive
