Material Types
Raw materials, operating supplies, semi finished products, finished products
Material Master Views
Basic Data, Stocks in plant/storage location, financial accounting, purchasing
Lot-sizing procedures (serve to calculate the procurement quantities, that is, the purchase order and production quantities.)
static / period / optimizied
BOM structure
Header: Status, Description, Validity, Lot size area
Items: Item category (stock item/non-stock item), descriptions, quantities, control data
Routing types (operation sequence)
standard, parallel, split, overlapp
Production Processes: Component Assignment
Components get assigned to Operations in the Routing, Procurement and consumption of componts occur at the beginning of the processes to which they are assigned
Work Center
Costing: Operations, Activities, Activity Rates, Activity based Costing
Planning: Factory Calender, Operations Plan, Maintenance Plan
Infrastructure: Machines, Production Line, Assembly Line, Work Force, Tools
MRP Process
MRP prerequisites (batch or online, area, relevance) -> Net Requirements calculation (demand, supply, planning horizon, lot-sizing) -> Dependent Requirements -> SoS Assignment -> Scheduling
Capacity Planning
Work Center plans the available capacity
MRP calculates capacity requirements based on based orders and routing
options for capacity constraints: increase capacity, reduce demand, capacity leveling (postpone), alternate SoS
shopfloor planning
Leitung & Führung der Fertigung
production preparation
production order status (created and released)
create production order -> reserve components & work center capacity -> print labels and documents
production execution
production order status (created and released and dispatched)
… -> stage components -> set up operations -> start first operation -> inspect quality
production confirmation
production order status (created and released and dispatched and confirmed)
… -> confirm first operation -> confirm last operation
production settlement
production order status (created and released and dispatched and confirmed and delivered and completed)
… -> post goods receipt into inventory -> cost settlement of production order
Outsourced Manufacturing Processes
Subcontracting, ariba SCM collaboration
Outsourced Manufacturing
Manufacture at different plant (within same company), at a different company (with same client), externatl contractor, different client (same S4 system), …
Process Manufacturing
Continuous flow of production, IoT
Repetitive Manufacturing
specify quantities per period, planned orders, repetitive: same/similar products produced over a longer period of time
Kanban Manufacturing
JIT Manufacturing
- JIT application to handle JIT calls based on analytics
Make-to-Stock
Transform raw materials and components into finished goods
planning strategy: forecast/consumption based
use cases: reliability, stable demand, limited product variations
Make-to-Order
produce finished products based on customer orders
planning strategy: order based
use cases: variable demand, unstable supply, high product variations
Configure-to-order
manufacture products out of semifinished products based on customer orders
planning strategy: consumption based for semi/order based for finished products
use cases: variable demand, unstable supply, high production variations, short lead times required, expensive products
Design-to-Order
Engineer products based on individual customer demand
planning strategy: project based, order based
use cases: individual customer demand, highly complex products, long lead times
Quality planning
during early stages of product design and development
- Failure Mode and Effects analysis, define quality-related master data, inspection planning, quality tasks
quality inspection
prepare, perform, and monitor different types of quality inspections (defects recording, sample management, stability studies, quality certificates)
quality management
improve processes and products (quality notifications, corrective and preventive actions, nonconformance management, quality analytics, audit management, ML)
sustainable production
waste management, CO2 reduction, new business models, recycling
Roles & Responsibilities
Supply Planner, Operations Supervisor, Material Planner, Production Scheduler, Delivery Planner, Quality Inspector
