Point: Iago uses misogynistic language to manipulate Othello

Quote: Iago states “Her eye must be fed”

Analysis: which the personification alludes to women being hungry for men and sex, making Othello believe Desdemona is disloyal and because she is a women, there is no stopping her from sleeping with Cassio

The “must” demonstrates Iagos persuasive language bringing Othello to completely switch his mindset on women.

Point: Iago takes the opportunity to criticise women in general as deceptive and hypocritical, saying they are lazy in all matter la except Sex

Analysis: imagery makes Desdemona vulnerable, making her another easy target for Iago to manipulate

Manipulation point 3: women as sneaky and devious

A

Point: Iago uses the stereotypical role of women to help manipulate Desdemona, thereby making her feel more vulnerable through his degrading use of words.

Quote: Iago states “ …saints in your injuries, Devils being offended, players in your housewifery, and housewives in your beds.”

Analysis: the anthropomorphism cements the idea that women are sneaky and devious, revealing how Iagos plan to use negative social views of women in order to manipulate Desdemona.
