What is significant about The California Gold Rush?

A

Gold was discovered in California around 1849 and settlers came quickly and from all over the world to find gold and become rich. 1850 California has enough people to apply to be a state. Many died and only a few became wealthy. People selling the supplies to gold mines became wealthier. Forty-Niners because the gold rush took place in 1849. The first challenge was for settlers to get to California.
