Manfacturing Systems Flashcards

0
Q

What is quick response manufacturing

A

Developed to make companies more efficient and profitable. Requires the manufacture to move from traditional batch production to ‘flow’ production

Q

What is concurrent manufacturing

A

Team working together, making sure that changes to one part of the process won’t require changes to made at another. This was the designs become ‘right first time’

Q

What is flexible manufacturing systems

A

Several machines are linked together by materials handling system to form an integrated system. Machine flexibility- product types and other operations can be changes. Routing flexibility- can use more machines to make a product meet the demand

Q

Just in time ? (Lean manufacture)

A

Manufacturing where there is no ‘fat’. To provide techniques that ensure minimum waste incurred during production and to product products only when needed

Q

Kaizen - perfection tools

A

Continuous improvement - where regular small and generally low costs changes are made to the production process resulting on small improvements being made

Q

What are computer aided quality control systems

A

Machines which gather QC data and feed or back into the system to analysis extremely all tolerance and control the quality of components e.g CMM, laser scanner, optical character recognition

15
Q

What are automated guided vehicles (AGV)

A

A materials handling device that I used to move parts between machines or work centres

16
Q

What is artificial intelligence

A

A machines with AL is one that exhibits human intelligence and behaviour and can demonstrate the ability to learn and adopt through experience

17
Q

What are expert systems

A

A logic system which has he ability to process large amounts of information and seemingly make decisions which are similar to humans

18
Q

Are are Autonomous robots

A

Robots which are equipped with the skills needed for a particular environment rather than being programmed for a specific task

19
Q

What are open-loop control systems

A

No feedback information on the quality of each stage of the process

20
Q

Why are closed loop control systems

A

Systems that use feedback to make decisions about the process

42
Q

Tasks performed within CIM

A
  • design of product using CAD
  • planning the most cost effective work flow
  • controlling the operations of machines and equipment needed to manufacture the product
  • performing business functions such as ordering stock and materials and invoicing customers
43
Q

Drawbacks of CIM

A

Depended upon computer data to fully interested all operations. Eg software from one brand many be incompatible when integrated with CNC machinery and an ASRS

44
Q

What is product data management systems within CIM

A

Product data management is an information system used to manage the date for a product as it passes through design to manufacture
The data includes: plans, 3D models, Cad drawings, CNC program’s and all related project data and documents. PDM also highlights when changes are made to one data base so that any effects on another part can be determined
