Manfacturing Systems Flashcards
What is quick response manufacturing
Developed to make companies more efficient and profitable. Requires the manufacture to move from traditional batch production to ‘flow’ production
Why is advanced manufacturing systems
Describes the significant impact of computers on manufacturing.
What concepts does QRM involve
Quality control management, just-in-time and manufacturing cells. The main aim is to increase overall flexibility and responsiveness of the company
What is concurrent manufacturing
Team working together, making sure that changes to one part of the process won’t require changes to made at another. This was the designs become ‘right first time’
What is flexible manufacturing systems
Several machines are linked together by materials handling system to form an integrated system. Machine flexibility- product types and other operations can be changes. Routing flexibility- can use more machines to make a product meet the demand
What is computer integrated manufacture
Integrates of all aspects of a company’s operations. Not just directly involved in manufacture
Product data management?
An information system used to manage the date for a product a it passes through design to manufacture
Enterprise resource planning?
A system which combines all the software and date from various departments into one system that all can use
Just in time ? (Lean manufacture)
Manufacturing where there is no ‘fat’. To provide techniques that ensure minimum waste incurred during production and to product products only when needed
Kanban - pull tools
Uses cards or containers as simple visual signals to indicate where to pull materials, components or products through the production system
Kaizen - perfection tools
Continuous improvement - where regular small and generally low costs changes are made to the production process resulting on small improvements being made
What are computer aided quality control systems
Machines which gather QC data and feed or back into the system to analysis extremely all tolerance and control the quality of components e.g CMM, laser scanner, optical character recognition
What are coordinate measuring machines
A mechanical system designed to move a measuring probe to determine the coordinates of points on the surface of a work price to accurately measure the sizes and pairings of features on mechanical parts
What is automated handling systems AMHS
An automated set of devices which take materials from one place to another e.g conveyor belt and AGV
What is automated storage and retrieval systems
An automated robotic system for sorting, storing and retrieving items in a warehouse
