Manchurian Crisis Flashcards
What were the causes of the Manchurian Crisis?
There was an economic depression and Japan had almost no money.
The population kept growing so they needed more land for them to live.
What were the events of the Manchurian Crisis?
Japan claimed that the Chinese set up an explosion on one of the railway lines connecting to two.
China asked the League for help.
It took the league a year to send people in to investigate, called Lytton Commission and say that Japan was in the wrong.
The league used Moral Condemnation but got ignored by Japan and they carried on taking over Manchuria.
In 1933 Japan left the League.
How did the League fail trying to sort out the Manchurian Crisis?
They couldn’t use economic sanctions because Japan traded with the USA who was not apart of League.
Britain and France didn’t wanted to send an Army to Japan because it was too far away and they had their own money problems
What were the effects of the League failing to sort out the Manchurian Crisis?
Italy and Germany saw Japan get away with going against the League so they therefore wanted to invade places too.
It made the league look weak
