suicide common in middle aged me from 45 to 50’s.
- barrier to health seeking behaviours seen in men. due to embarrassment and negative view on therapy, socioeconomic factors such as being the breadwinner, leading to risk-taking behaviours like alcohol abuse.
how can we improve men’s health?
- communication, signposting, supporting through MIND/CALM/SHOUT.
- exercise, healthy diet.
how might we approach the conversation about men’s mental health?
- establish a rapport.
- take full history and get accurate information.
- initiate the conversation.
- provide realistic time frame to make changes.
- have a shared decision making process.
what are your clinical priorities in approaching mental health in men?
- consider lifestyle factors,
- 10 year CVS risk.
- establish treatment targets to get clinical benefit.
- set clear followup and provide support and information.

what are the physical causes behind erectile dysfucntion?
- atherosclerosis, smoking cigarettes, cycling.
- heavy drinking damages nerves to penis and reduces testosterone and increases oestrogen.

- prostate gland surgery, radical prostatectomy.
- side effect of BP, heart disease, depression, peptic ulcer drugs could cause.

what psychological reasons could cause it?
- stress and anxiety,
- depression.

how could you treat ED?
- oral drugs like viagra with headaches and facial flushing being the common side effects.
- injection therapy to relax blood vessels to increase blood flow.
- MUSE with alprostadil.
- therapy/ counselling, wider CVS risk screening and prophylaxis!
