What is the difference between managers and leaders?
A leader is someone who empowers, developed + facilitates. Whereas a manager is someone who controls, avoids risks + revolves around money
What are the features of an autocratic leader?
- Managers focus on power
- Communication is top-down
- Formal system of command
- Little delegation
- Rewards + penalties
What are the features of a democratic leader?
- Focus of power - as a whole group
- Leadership functions are shared
- Emphasis on delegation
- Trade-off between speed of decision making
What are the features of a laissez- fairs leader?
- Leader has little input into decision making (day-to-day)
- Conscious decision to delegate power
- Managers/employers have freedom - do what’s best
- Effective when staff willing to take responsibilities
