What is Ethics?
► Code of moral principles.
► Set standards of “good” and “bad” as opposed to “right” and
“wrong.
What is Ethical Behavior?
► What is accepted as good and right in the context of the governing moral code.
This behavior usually refers to something very specific-for example the teacher may say “I want to see everyone reading quietly for the next five minutes”-and includes what can be termed the “form and frequency of a desired response”.
Terminal Values
This are the means by which we achieve our end goals.
Instrumental Values
It is the view of ethics which is greatest good to the greatest number of people.
Utilitarian view of ethics
It is the view of ethics where primary commitment is to one’s long-term self-interests.
Individualism view of ethics
It is the view of ethics which respects and protects the fundamental rights of all people.
Moral-rights view of ethics
It is the view of ethics where fair and impartial treatment of people according to legal rules and standards.
Justice view of ethics
This ethical behavior is always determined by cultural context.
Cultural Relativism
Behavior that is unacceptable in one’s home environment should not be acceptable anywhere else.
