Management Flashcards
1
Q
Solids removal techniques (7)and their mechanisms
A
- Settling basin - gravity
- Tube settler - gravity
- Swirl separator - centrifugal forces
- Screen filtration - size
- Granular - size
- Foam fractioning - proteins binds to air bubbles
- Ozonation - oxidation
2
Q
4 most important sources of waste
A
- Fecal
- Feed fines
- Uneaten feed
- Sloughed biofilm
3
Q
5 factors affecting solid production
A
- Fraction of uneaten feed
- Fraction of feed fines
- Digestability
- Feces and feed’s resistance to shearing forces
- Time between production and removal
4
Q
3 characteristics of solids
A
- Specific gravity
- Size
- Composition
5
Q
4 reasons why it’s important to remove solids
A
- Water quality affects fish performance
- Plugs biofilter, screens and taps
- Reduces N-removal
- Solids breaks down easily, degradation and dissolves.
6
Q
Why denitrification? (2 reasons)
A
To remove the accumulated NO3 from nitrification for two reasons; high NO3 levels are toxic to fish, to reduce the pollution unit of the farmer as there is prohibited to discharge water with high concentration of nitrate NO3.
7
Q
What is the Bohr(Root) effect?
A
Blodet har sämre syretransportsförmåga vid lågt pH (och vid högt CO2 – Root)
8
Q
5 orsaker för water flow
A
- Ge fisken syre för att kunna metabolisera fodret
- Remove dissolved metabolites
- Transport av solids
- Optimum flow för fiskens hälsa, muskler och respiration.
- Maintain water temp
