Managers make all decisions and they tell their staff what to do. Staff input is not required
Advantages of Autocratic management
quicker more efficient decision making
manager may have better experience and knowledge to make the right desicion
Disadvantages of Autocratic management
demotivated staff as their ideas are not considered
wrong decision may be made as it is one persons opinion
What is Democratic management?
managers involve all staff in decision making
Advantages of Democratic management
staff retention is higher as employees feel valued
staff more motivated
employees may help make better decisions
Disadvantages of Democratic management
more time consuming as more people involved
can create conflict amongst staff
What is Paternalistic management?
Managers ask staff for input but the managers make the final decisions themselves
Advantages of Paternalistic management
employees feel valued so are more motivated
managers may get better ideas from staff input
Disadvantages of Paternalistic management
conflicting ideas amongst staff
time consuming as lots of people involved
What is Laissez-faire management?
A leadership style where managers give employees significant freedom to make decisions and work independently
Manager provide provides minimal guidance, trusting employees to manage their task
