Management Flashcards
Asthma Management and prognosis
Often reversible, but no cure for cause
Exercise guildelines, smoking cessation, weight loss
Personalised plan, annaul review
Inhalers adherance, avoidance of exacerbation
Calm breathing and ACBT techniques
Medical: bronchodilators, anticholingergics, oral corticosteroids, mast cell stabilisers
Outcome measures: symptom control, spirometry and PEF, exercise capacity, exacerbation number, medication change
Aspiration Pneumonia Management
SALT referral
exercise tolerance recovery
cause of aspiration? neuro investigation
Radiographer, Radiologist, Dietian, SLT, Neuro?
Cystic Fibrosis Management and prognosis
Incurable but management slows lung damage, increased mortality and decreased longevity
Self management is key: airway clearance same as treatment
Avoidance of other CF patients
Medical: sputum cultures, bone density, nutrition, antibiotics, bronchodilators, mucolytics
General Anaesthetic Management
Medical: opiods, NSAIDS, analgesia
Importance of mobilisation and deep breathing exercises
Activity guidelines, smoking cessation
COPD Management
No cure, irreversible lung damage Lung transplant Advice/self management Activity guidelines, smoking cessation, vaccination, BMI, alcohol Psych support Non-invasive ventilation, oxygen
Medical: inhaled steriods, bronchodilators (salbutamol), nicotine agonist to reduce smoking craving
