Manageing acute stress fractures Flashcards
what is it?
usually fracture in pars interarticularis
what causes it?
extension & extension/rotation
sudden change in direction
repetitive hyperextension +/- rotation
large alternating flexion and extension movements
tissue sensitivity
temporary rest from provocative movements
reduce provocative activities
educate on awareness of condition/causes/prognosis
maintain fitness
address contributing factors
local function
mobility: improve into flexion - nonprovocative gentle flexion exercises (not mobs)
muscle: improve flexion/rotation independent movement
increase to high load
improve control into unilateral extension and rotation, increase to high load
remote function
mobility: improve Tx and hip movement into extension & rotation
improve muscle performance independent of lumbar spine
high load training for LL muscles
general function
maintain fitness modify technique modify load on Lx during sport graded return to activity/sport functionally relevant high load training
psychological
education/awarness to all stake holders
address concerns/psychosocial flags
promote idea of recovery
