What is Force Health Protection?
“The conservation of the fighting potential of a force so that it is healthy and fully combat capable.”
Describe what FHP is and how it applies across the forces.
“It consists of actions taken to counter the debilitating effects of:
Environment, occupational health risks, EIH, Endemic disease
CBRN threats for personnel, systems, and operational formations.
Specialists who contribute to FHP
Public Health (PH)
•Occupational Health (OH)
•General Practitioners (GPs)
•Oral Health
•Veterinary Support
•Mental Health
•Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
Overall responsibility for the health of a soldier
The Commanding Officer
1st Line Support is made up of

•Combat Health Duties personnel

Roles of the Combat Health Duties (CHD) trained personnel
The identification and safe control of disease vectors and pests.
•The implementation of appropriate operational sanitation measures and procedures.
•The treatment, collection, storage and distribution of potable Unit water supplies.
Restrictions of CHD personnel
Lack of space in the specific environment. (FOB good example)
•Low Priority on resupply (insecticides etc)
•High tempo of work role (CHD is a secondary duty/task
•Proximity to sleeping/eating areas
The CHA has three tasks, namely:
Conduct a Tier 1 Environmental and Industrial Hazards (EIH) Risk Assessment.
•Manage the Combat Health Duties (CHD) trained JNCO/ soldiers
•Provide relevant input in the Planning of Overseas Training Exercises (OTX),
Responsibilities of the Combat Health Advisers (CHA)
Identifying hazards in the AOR
•Undertaking threat assessments/hazard recognition
•Implementing Force Health Protection measures
•Advise the CoC on the measures necessary to manage/mitigate risks
