What is mammary duct ectasia?
A
Dilation and shortening of the major lactiferous ducts

Epidemiology
A
Common in peri-menopausal women
40% of women having signifcant duct dilation by 70yrs

Clinical features
A
Coloured green/yellow nipple discharge
Palpable mass
Nipple retraction

Investigations
A
Mammography with dilated calcified ducts without any other features of malignancy.
If biopsied it shows multiple plasma cells.

Management
A
Conservative
Refractory should be treated with duct excision
