What are Mammary Glands?
The milk-producing gland of women or other female mammals.
What is a Diaphragm?
A dome-shaped, muscular partition separating the thorax from the abdomen in mammals. It plays a major role in breathing, as its contraction increases the volume of the thorax and so inflates the lungs.
What does Endothermic mean?
Dependent on or capable of the internal generation of heat.
What is Hair?
Any of the fine threadlike strands growing from the skin of humans, mammals, and some other animals.
What are Incisors?
A narrow-edged tooth at the front of the mouth, adapted for cutting.
What are Canines?
A pointed tooth between the incisors and premolars of a mammal, often greatly enlarged in carnivores.
What are Molars?
A grinding tooth at the back of a mammal’s mouth.
What is Sexual Reproduction?
The production of new living organisms by combining genetic information from two individuals of different types.
What is Placenta?
A flattened circular organ in the uterus of pregnant eutherian mammals, nourishing and maintaining the fetus through the umbilical cord.
What is the Gestation Period?
For mammals the gestation period is the time in which a fetus develops, beginning with fertilization and ending at birth. The duration of this period varies between species.
Anteaters, Armadillos, and Sloths.
The superorder, Xenarthra is a group of placental mammals, extant today only in the Americas and represented by anteaters, tree sloths, and armadillos.
What are Insectivores?
A carnivorous plant that eats insects.
What are Rodents?
Rodents are mammals of the order Rodentia, characterized by a single pair of continuously growing incisors in each of the upper and lower jaws.
Rabbits, Hares, and Pikas.
The group that these mammals are in is called, “Lagomorpha”.
What are Flying Mammals?
Vertebrate covered with hair, with forelimbs converted into wings by means of a membrane connecting the fingers, allowing it to fly.
