Describe mammals.

Is the whale a fish?
No. Although it has a fish-like body shape and lives in the sea, the whale is a mammal. It has an outer covering of hair on its body, gives birth to its young alive and feeds its young with milk.

Describe the characteristics of birds.
- outer covering of feathers on their bodies
- has a beak, a pair of wings and a pair of legs
- lay eggs and the eggs are protected by shells.

What are the feathers for?
To help the birds keep warm, fly and attract their partners, especially the male birds that often have more attractive feathers than the female birds.
Where do birds lay their eggs in?
A nest.
How do birds keep their eggs warm?
By sitting on them.
