it means malicious and software. it can take any form and can be very harmful to a computer system and its data.

- Advertising supported software showers user with pop-ups.
- Generally harmless but slows the system down.

A
- Allows a cyber attacker to take control of a system without the users knowledge.
- It could end up in a botnet.

- A flaw in the design of the software
- Could result in a vulnerability the allows the hacker to penetrate the system.
Mitigation - Ensure any patches or security updates are installed as soon as they are released.

A
- A type of malware that will encrypt the infected machines data and will charge the user a ransom to decrypt the data.

- Allows an attacker to gain administrative privileges on a computer system.
- Once an attacker they are able to access data or information.
Mitigation - Hard to detect
- Keep security software up to date
- avoid downloading suspicious files

- Looks like a legitimate piece of software such as a game or utility to clean up the hard disk.
- However it will include a type or malware

- It can replicate itself and cause damage to a system.
- It attaches itself to a file and when someone opens this it activates the virus.

- It can self replicate and go long the network causing damage as it goes.
