Malware
A wide range of software that has malicious intent.
Virus
A set of malicious code that attaches itself to a host application.
Armored Virus
A virus that uses various techniques to make reverse engineering more difficult.
Polymorphic Malware
A virus that changes when it replicates or executes in order to hide from AV software.
Worms
A self-replicating malware that travels throughout a network without the assistance of a host application or user interaction (no exe).
Logic Bomb
A string of code that will execute in response to an event, including time, or user action.
Backdoor
A hidden way to access a system, bypassing normal authentication methods.
Trojan
An application that seems legitimate, but carries malicious code.
Botnet
A group of computers controlled by a group or person.
Ransomware
Malware that takes control of a user’s computer and demands money to give back control.
Rootkits
A group of program that hides the fact that a system has been infected. Has system/root/kernel-level access to control the system’s behavior.
Spyware
Malware that monitors user’s computer or activity, and can harvest data.
Adware
Pop-ups or software with ads.
