How common is it?
A
Very in hospitals. But also, being fat is malnutrition so very very common.

What causes it?
A
Anorexia nervosa,
carcinoma of the oesophagus or stomach.
Post-operative states.
Dementia.
Malnutrition can be a protein-energy malnutrition, vitamin deficiencies, or both.

How does it present?
A
In children as kwashiorkor (swollen ankles, scaly skin, swollen abdomen, depigmented hair) and marasmus (hair loss, wrinkled skin, severe wasting). Cachexia
