What is the criteria to differentiate between melanoma vs benign mole?
- Assymettrical
- Border irregularity
- Colour variations
- Diameter - >6mm
- Evolution - change in the character of the mole - bleeding, shape and itchy
- F-funny looking, different to other moles
how does melanoma on the nail present?
Hutchingson’s signs -
splitting of the nail
- dark pigment extending beyonf the nail
Mx of melanoma
- excision - narrowwide local excision
2. Systemic spread - chemo/targetted therapu
How does basal cell carcinoma present?
- most common skin cancer
- locally invasive
- slow growing and never metastasise
describe the features basal cell carcinoma
- non healing/bleeds occasionally
- pearly edge and centrally ulcerated
- telangiectasia
Management of basal cell carcinoma?
- cryotherapy
- Imiquinod cream
- radiotherapy
surgical-
- excision
- curretage/cautery
how does squamous cell carcinoma present?
- second most common type of skin cancer
- presents elderly patient on sun exposed sites
- spreads to lymph nodes
describe the features of squamous cell carcinoma?
- keratinised/ulcerated nodule
- rolled edges
- tender nodule
Mx of squamous cell carcinoma?
- surgery
