What is a scrotum
A sac of loose skin and underlying subcutaneous tissue that contains the testis
The scrotum is separated into 2 compartments. What separates them?
-dartos muscle
- subcutaneous layer
The testis are
Paired, oval glands in the scrotum
The testes are responsible for what
Sperm productions and androgens(ex. Testosterone)
What is the function of the seminiferous tubules
To carry sperm produced within then (spermatogenesis) out of the testis
Spermatogensis begins with
Spermatogenia (diploid stem cells) that differentiate into diploid primary spermatocytes
The primary spermatocyte undergoes
Meiosis 1 to become two secondary spermatocytes (haploid.)
What happens when meiosis 2 take place
The secondary spermatocytes become 4 spermatids
Sperm is designed to reach and penetrate the
Secondary oocyte in order to achieve fertilization and create a zygote
The head of the sperm contains
A nucleus with 23 chromosomes
What does the neck of the sperm contain?
Centrifuges that form the micro tubule that make up the rest of the tail
What does the middle piece contain?
Mitochondria that make ATP for locomotion of the sperm
The principle piece and end piece make up
The tail used for movement
