Female Reproductive system Flashcards
Steps of period cycle
Step 1: primordial follicles
Step 2- Primary follicle (get FSH) to make
Step 3- secondary follicles. We need the hormone estrogen that we get from the Zona pellusida
Step 4- mature follicles. Next we get Luteinizing hormone
Step 5: LH weakens the wall of the ovary for egg release. (Egg begins protruding out) anterior Pituitary asks for the LH. This happens at day 14
Step 6: egg gets release in fallopian tubes
Step 7- estrogen thickens the wall of the uterus
Step 8: everything remnants such as left over cells form the corpus luteum
Step 9: surge of progesterone after release of 1 egg and lives for 10 days
Step 10- progesterone will come and vacularize, making new vessels, veins
Implementation of egg and sperm sends signal to corpus leuteum to send the nutrients. If there is no signal, corpus leuteum will die. Walls of uterine lining slough off.
Secondary follicles contain follicles called
Granulosa
Secondary follicles are composed of
- Zona pellusida
- Granulosa follicles
3.theca cells
(From secondary follicles) Theca + granulosa =
Estrogen
What day does ovulation occur
Day 14
When does menstruation occur, what day
Day 28
Finger like projections of the fallopian tube is called
Fimbrae
Function of Zona pellusida
When an egg gets fertilized, it sends cells in the form of mucous to kill other sperm
Function of FSH
Causes follicles in one of your ovaries to mature
At day 14, there us a suggestion in which hormone? What are the effects?
LH
Causes ovary to release an egg (ovulation)
When the egg travels through the fallopian tube, the level of what hormone rises? What does this help with?
Progesterone
Helps prepare the uterine lining for pregnancy (vacularizaes uterine wall)
If implantation does not occur, the egg
Disintegrated and gets reabsorbed by the body and menustartion begins
