Male Reproductive System Flashcards
Testes
Produce sperms by mitosis, and inside each teste are loops of coiled tubules
Diploid
produce the haploid sperm cells by mitosis
Testosterone
the main male hormone is also made in the testes, sperm cells from the tubules drain into a long coiled tube called the epididymis where they are stored
Epididymis
each epididymis leads to a sperm duct also known as the van deferenas
Sperm duct
The seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and Cowper’s gland lead into the sperm duct.
Why are the sperms stored outside the body?
Millions of testes are produced everyday, for this, the temperature must be lower than the body temperature, so the testes lie outside the body enclosed in a sack-like scrotum.
How is semen formed
The glands that lead to the sperm duct secrete a liquid that combines with the sperm to form semen.
