Human Reproduction Flashcards
How reproduction takes place
What makes a living organism different from a non-living organism?
They have the ability to produce fertile offspring or reproduce.
2 ways reproduction can take place
Sexually or Asexually
What are the specialized cells produced in sexual reproduction called?
Gametes
What are the specialized cells in Males called?
Sperm cells
What are the specialized cells in Females called?
Eggs or Ova
What must the male and female specialized cells do for fertilization to take place?
They must fuse together
What does fertilization cause the two gametes to become
The two gametes fused to become a zygote
What does the zygote do to form all the cells for the new human?
The zygote starts to divide by mitosis to form all the cells for the new human
What is there in Asexual Reproduction?
In Asexual Reproduction, there are no specialized gametes and there is no fertilization
How does Asexual Reproduction work?
Specific cells divide by mitosis to form structures that are capable of breaking away from the parent and growing into a new organism.
