Male Endocrinology Flashcards
1
Q
What is essential for spermatogenesis?
A
Testosterone
2
Q
What is androgen-binding globulin?
A
A protein that binds to testosterone and keeps it in seminiferous tubules. When testosterone is released, 5a reductase can cause conversion of T to DHT.
3
Q
What is TDS?
A
Testicular dysgenesis syndrome.
Disorder characterised by presence of cyptorchidism, hypospadias and TGCC (testicular germ cell cancer) and decreased semen quality.
4
Q
What cells are affected causing hypospadias and cryptorchidism in TDS?
A
Leydig cell failure, impairing testosterone and ISNL-3 secretion.
5
Q
What cells are affected causing infertility and TGCC in TDS?
A
Sertoli cell failure, causing diminished capacity to nurture germ cells.
