what does the female reproductive system include?
Vulva, Vagina, Cervix, Uterus, Fallopian Tubes, Ovaries
What is the purpose of the vulva?
The gate for the uterus and provides protection by closing the ‘lips of the vulva”
What are the 3 main functions of the vagina?
- Passageway for blood/tissue from the uterus
- Pathway for penis in sexual intercourse
- Passageway for childbirth
What is the function of the cervix?
Neck of uterus, passage way for fluids, keeps bacteria out of uterus and helps protect baby –> musous plug
What is the purpose of the uterus?
Faciliate and protect the brith of the fetus, provides mechanial and nutrional support and contract during labour
what is the purpose of the fallopian tubes
To move the egg into the uterus
What is the purpose of the Ovaries?
To produce Ova (egg cells) and hormone secretion
What are the male reproductive organs?
The penis, the scrotum, the testes, epididymis, van deferens, prostate and seminal vesicles
Purpose of the scrotum
To hold and protect the testes –> control temperature
Purpose of the testes?
Produce sperm and testosterone
Purpose of the epididymis?
Tubing pathway for semen surrounds main structure of testes
Purpose of the Vas deferns
Muscular tube that transports mature sprem to the urethra in preparation for ejaculation
Purpose of the prostate?
Produces seminal fluid
