Maintenance Requirements Flashcards
Whose responsibility is it to ensure that the maintenance on an aircraft is completed properly?
The owner
What do you need before you can takeoff in an airplane that has just undergone maintenance?
A maintenance release order in the Journey Log.
If an aircraft has a snag (ex: tail wheel flat) that aircraft cant go flying until a __________ is put in the journey log.
Maintenance release
Elementary work does not require a maintenance release signed by an AME. However, any elementary work done must be detailed in…
The technical record and be accompanied by the signature of the person who performed the work
In order for a person to perform elementary work on a commercially registered aircraft what must an AME do with you?
Supervise you doing the work the first time and then you are cleared to do it on your own later
For private planes, what is the maintenance cycle?
Every 12 months or 100 hours, whichever comes first (known as an ‘Annual’)
For commercial aircraft, what is a typical maintenance cycle?
Every 50 hours (50, 100, 50, 200, etc)
The 50 hour inspections are basic. The 100 is more involved. The 200 is intensive (is kind of like a commercial annual. A plane could have several 200 hour inspections per year)
What do Technical Records include?
- The Journey Log (what we as pilots see most)
- Airframe Log
- Engine
- Variable pitch propeller(s)
**What is in the seperate records is also in the Journey Log. In the case that the Journey Log gets destroyed, these records remain
How do you fill out a techincal record?
- Entries must be accurate, legible, and in ink
- Person’s name and signature and/or employee number
- Date
When starting a new technical record (ex the journey log is full and you need to start another), how do you do it?
Carry over enough entries to ensure an unbroken chronological order.
After you start a new Journey log, how long do you have to keep the old one?
At least one year
No person shall make a single entry in a Journey Log for a series of flights unless:
- The AC is operated by the same PIC throughout the series
or
- An approved Daily Flight Record is used (as many flight schools do. Debert has theirs on that clipbard you fill out)
Usually you can’t take off in an AC without the Journey Log. However, what are the three exceptions to this rule?
- Flight Training Units may get exemptions if the flight starts and ends at the home base
- If the aircraft does not touch down at a location other than the point of departure.
- Air balloons may fly without a Journey Log
What two documents should never be carried on board at the same time?
Journey log and seperate techinical records. Even in the case of an AC being sold, the journey log and technical records should be sent to the new owner via seperate means
What two maintenance manuals are required in a commercial setting?
- Maintenancy Policy Manual (MPM)
- Maintenance Control Manual (MCM)
