What is defined as line maintenance?
Any maintenance that is carried out before flight to ensure that the aircraft is fit for the intended flight.
Which aircraft are not required to be maintained by a PART 145 organisation?
Aircraft less that 5700kg and not used for commercial air transportation
What is Part M subpart F?
A scaled down version of a Part 145, for aircraft less than 5700kg and not used for Commercial Air Transport
Where can details of approved maintenance ratings be found?
On page 2 (The Approval Schedule) of the EASA approval certificate (EASA form 3)
What is category A Class Rating?
Aircraft including engines, APU and components whilst fitted to the aircraft.
What is a category B Class Rating?
Engines and their components which are not installed to the aircraft, including APU’s. (Components must be installed on the engine)
What is Category C Class Rating?
Components which are not installed on the aircraft, unless detailed in the MOE (subject to a control procedure).
Who signs the front page of the MOE?
The accountable manager
What say does a competent authority have in a 145 organisation’s chosen Accountable Manager?
The CA can refuse an Accountable manager if there is evidence of unacceptable performance in a previous position.
Which managers should an organisation have (depending on the extent of the approval) and who do the report to?
A base maintenance manager
A line maintenance manager
A workshop manager
A quality manager
They report to the Accountable manager.
What is the Quality manager’s job?
They are responsible for monitoring the organisation’s continued compliance with part 145, including the associated feedback system..
What qualifications must NDT personnel have?
European or equivalent Standard qualifications recognised by The Agency (officially recognised standards)
Which NDT tasks may a B1 or B3 carry out?
Colour contrast dye penetrant tests.
When an aircraft is grounded at a location other than the main base, where no appropriate certifying staff are available, what can a 145 organisation do?
Issue a one off certification to:
One of it’s employees holding equivalent type authorisations on similar aircraft or,
To any person with not less that 5 years maintenance experience, holding a valid ICAO aircraft maintenance licence with the correct type rating.
If a company issues a one off certification authorisation, what two things must they do within seven days?
Report it to the competent authority, and ensure that any maintenance carried out, which could affect flight safety, is re-checked by an appropriately approved organisation.
What does support staff mean?
Those staff holding a Part 66 aircraft maintenance licence in Cat B1, B2 and/or B3 with the appropriate aircraft ratings, working in a base maintenance environment, while not necessarily holding certification privileges.
Certifying and support staff must continually have at least how much experience?
6 months or actual relevant experience in any consecutive 2 year period.
How often do certifying staff and support staff need continuation training?
Every 2 years
What should continuation training for certifying and support staff cover?
Relevant new technology
Up to date knowledge of the organisation, and it’s procedures and
Human Factor issues.
