2
Q

What occurs in an AC circuit

A

The voltage is continuously varying from positive to negative so the current changes direction continuously

Q

How do we calculate time period

A

Number of divisions in a whole time period (whole wave) x time per division

Time period = 1/ frequency

13
Q

What does the neutral wire do

A

Completes the circuit, so the electrons flow back through here

15
Q

What does the earth wire do

A

Creates a safe route for the current to flow to the earth with a low resistance

16
Q

What do fuses do

A

Contains a thin piece of wire with low resistance. If there is failure in both the live and earth wires the fuse melts due to resistive beating and breaks the circuit

17
Q

How does earthing keep plugs safe

A

It provides a very low resistance path connected to the earth so in case of fault, a large current flows through it

18
Q

What does double insulation do

A

Protects the user from electric shocks as it is covered with a second layer of insulating material so there is no need for an earth wire as the live wire can’t touch the casing

19
Q

4 electrical hazards

A

Keep all sources of water away from appliances (water is a good conductor)

Don’t overloads circuits (over heating + fire)

Trailing cables (trip hazard + cable could be pulled free from appliances)

Don’t use damaged appliances (🔥)
