main steps in breeding new vaiety
1.collection of variety-
genetic variety is the root of any breeding programme
the entire collection containing all diverse alleles for all the genes in a cop c/as germplasm colection
2.evaluation of parents- the selected parents are multiplied and used in process of hybridisation, purelines are created whenevar paossible and desirable 3.cross hybrisn among selected parents- a very time consuming n tedious process, usually only one in a few 100 to 1000 crosses show desirable comb. 4. selection n testing pf sup. recombinants - this process is crucial to the success of breeding obj. n requires carefull scientific evaaluation of the progeny . 5. testing,release and commercialisn of new cultivars-
newly selected lines are evaluates for thr YIELD, OTHER AGRONOMIC TRAITS OF QUALITY, DISEASE RESISTANCE.
