MAH LEHG! Flashcards
What are the three muscles that are considered the hamstrings?
Biceps femoris (long head)
Semitendinosus
Semimembranosus
What are the three requirements to be considered a hamstring muscle?
- Attach to the ischial tuberosity
- Innervated by the tibial division of the sciatic nerve
- Attach distally to the leg bones
What are the muscles of the anterior compartment of the leg?
Tibialis Anterior
Extensor Hallucis Longus
Extensor Digitorum Longus
Fibularis Tertius
What nerve innervates the anterior leg?
Deep fibular nerve (branch from the common fibular nerve)
What are the muscles of the lateral compartment of the leg?
Fibularis Longus
Fibularis Brevis
What nerve innervates the lateral compartment of the leg>
Superficial fibular nerve (branch from the common fibular nerve)
What are the three muscles that make up the Pes Anserine? Where do they distally attach?
Gracilis
Sartorius
Semitendinosus
Attach to the superior medial portion of the tibia
What are the muscles of the posterior compartment of the thigh?
Biceps Femoris (Long and short heads) Semimembranosus Semitendinosus Adductor Magnus (deep) Pectineus
What are the muscles of the anterior compartment of the thigh?
Quadriceps (Rectus Femoris, Vastus Medialis, Vastus Intermedialis, Vastus Lateralis)
Sartorius
What are the muscles of the medial compartment of the thigh?
Gracilis Adductor Longus Adductor Brevis Adductor Magnus Pectineus
What action does the tibialis anterior also perform other than dorsiflexion of the ankle?
Supination of the foot
What action does the fibularis tertius perform other than dorsiflexion of the ankle?
Pronation of the foot
What are the muscles of the superficial posterior compartment of the leg?
Gastrocnemius
Soleus
Plantaris
What nerve innervates the muscles of the superficial posterior compartment of the leg?
Tibial Nerve
What are the muscles of the deep posterior compartment of the leg?
What is their innervation?
Tibialis Posterior Flexor Hallucis Longus Flexor Digitorum Longus Popliteus Innervated by the Tibial Nerve
What does the saphenous nerve innervate on the leg?
Supplies skin on medial side of leg and foot
What does the deep fibular nerve innervate?
Motor-anterior leg compartment muscles
Sensory-between the first two toes
What does the superficial fibular nerve innervate?
Motor-Lateral leg compartment muscles
Sensory-Dorsum of foot EXCEPT between first two toes
What does the tibial nerve innervate?
Motor-Posterior leg compartment muscles (superficial and deep) and plantar foot muscles
Sensory-plantar surface of foot
