How many times larger the image is than the actual size
Increasing it doesn’t increase amount of detail

The shortest distance to distinguish 2 objects
Determines amount of detail seen

How can resolution be affected?
A
- diffraction of light (tendency of light waves to spread as they pass near to close physical structures and light is reflected from individual structures overlap
- beams of electrons have a shorter wavelength> resolution increases
