Magnets Flashcards
Dipoles:
(magnets r made up of smaller magnets called dipoles) dipoles interact with other dipoles in the material
What do dipoles do:
Line up in a single direction, then small magnetic domains are created (like tiny bar magnets)
What do the domains do In a strong magnetic field ?
The small magnetic domains line up forming 1 large magnet with N&S poles
What happens to the domains when u break a magnet in 2?
They form 2 magnets with N&S poles
What happens when u disrupt the alignment of the domains so that he dipoles are randomly distributed?
They demagnetize
Ferromagnetic materials:
Nickel , iron , cobalt, and alloys of them
Electromagnetism:
(A combo of 2 words) electricity and magnet
Oersteds principle:
Electricity moving through a conductor produces a circular magnetic field around the conductor
Electron current flow:
(-) ——> (+)
Conventional current flow:
(+) ——–> (-) (
What does coiled wore do?:
It changes the field strength though constructed reinforcement
What does a permeable core do?
Enhances the magnetic strength (depends on the type of core)
