Magnetos Final Flashcards
Where is the timing plate installed?
To the breaker compartment of the magneto
Where is the pointer installed and with what is it aligned?
On camscrew and align pointer with zero degree mark of timing plate
What should be done if clearance is less than .012”?
Readjust to .012” + recheck e gap
What should be done is e gap is less than 6 and more than 14?
Replace breaker
What is done to the new oil seal lip?
Wipe lip of new oil seal with SAE30 oil
What should be avoided making contact with when installing the new seal?
The threads or keyway
What is done after installing the oil seal and deflector?
Check torque of cam securing screw for 16 to 20 in. Lbs
If an impulse coupling is used, what is the mating can assembly checked for?
Check for magnetism which would prevent the flyweight from engaging
How is the mating cam demagnetized?
Place body over shaft of a charged rotating magnet, and spin body rapidly by hand
What is brushed over the coils of the impulse spring after installation in the recessed hub?
Light oil
What is applied to the stop pins if an impulse coupling is used?
Liberal coating of Beacon 325
What must the spark gaps be set at prior to the test run?
5mm
You operated the magneto for 1 min @ 5000rpm, then reduce to 4000 rpm. What may be the cause if it begins to miss?
Caused by improperly adjusted breaker assembly, dirty points or defective capacitor
At what speed should your magneto be test run @ for minimum of 3.5 hrs? Cyl arrangement of your magneto
2500rpm for 4 cyl
3250rpm for 6 cyl
What should the impulse coupling be checked for after the test run?
Manually check to make sure body turns freely on cam assay and bushing
